RSV ResourcesThe Flu: What Every Parent Should Know
- Flu (short for influenza) is caused by a respiratory virus.
- It spreads quickly through the air via sneezes or coughs and by touching contaminated surfaces, such as door handles.
- Young children under 5 years old (especially under 2) and adults over 65 are at higher risk for severe flu complications, including hospitalization, pneumonia, and the need for oxygen.
- Common flu symptoms include sudden fever, muscle aches, dry cough, sore throat, headache, and a stuffy nose. Some may also experience vomiting and diarrhea.
- Flu season runs from fall through spring, peaking between December and February.
- The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older and offers protection for about six months, helping the immune system fight the virus and reducing the risk of severe illness in children.
- The best time to get vaccinated is between late September and the end of October for optimal protection.

Andrea Voorhees, Administrative Support Professional at Altitude Pediatrics, has been an integral part of the team since its inception. Born and raised in Palisade, Colorado, Andrea grew up immersed in her family's orchard business, where she developed a strong work ethic. Following her high school graduation in 2010, she spent several years in Seattle before returning to her roots.
Her passion for supporting children extends beyond her professional role, as she enjoys spoiling her ten nieces and nephews and dedicating herself to the well-being of kids in the community. Andrea’s commitment to providing exceptional care and fostering a warm, welcoming environment makes her a valued member of the Altitude Pediatrics team.
“Andrea is our peaceful ninja. She works diligently behind the scenes to keep our office going. She is genuinely kind and cares for the people around her. Andrea has become an incredible friend to so many, especially me. I am beyond grateful for her steady presence, hard work, and dedication to doing the right thing.” - Chelsey Wells | Practice Manager
