4 Ways You Can Support Your Child Going Back to School with Rickelle Hicks, LMFT
Building healthy habits and routines is essential for children’s emotional and physical well-being. Small, consistent practices create stability, helping kids manage school demands and navigate their feelings. From bedtime routines to open communication, establishing these habits can make a meaningful difference in your child’s daily life. Below are some practical ways to foster balance and create an environment where your child can thrive.
1: Routines
Routine helps kids feel safe and thrive! Make sure they are getting 10-12 hours of sleep with no screens 2 hours before bed
2: Open Communication
School brings lots of relationships and feelings. Help them download their feelings with a parent child journal you can write back and forth in to give them an outlet to process
3: Consistency
Try and have one night where you do the same thing as a grounding night for your kids. Something to look forward to that is the same every time can create comfort and anchoring. Friday night = walk/movie/ pizza
4: Breaks
Give your kids a brain break for the first 30 minutes when they get home to help them release all their energy from sitting all day. Encourage them to move - bikes, walk around block, trampoline before they get started on their homework.
