Dr. Shannon Murphy
Dr. Shannon Murphy spent nearly every day of her early childhood with a baby doll in her arms and a diaper bag over her shoulder. At the age of five, after a tonsillectomy performed at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Dr. Murphy decided to combine her love of babies with her newly discovered world of medicine and declared her life long goal would be to become a “baby doctor”. She spent much of her teenage years caring for many of the children in her hometown, Collbran, Colorado.
After completing high school at Plateau Valley in Collbran, CO, she continued her education at Mesa State College receiving a bachelor's degree in Biology. Having been raised in the West, Dr. Murphy looked to new experiences and the exploration of bigger places by attending medical school in Nashville, Tennessee at Meharry Medical College. Graduating in 2006, she was a member of the Alpha Omega Honor Society and received the pediatrics award. Her residency again brought a new locale as she completed her pediatrics residency in 2009 at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Post- residency, Dr. Murphy spent an additional two years continuing to care for children in Salt Lake in the Emergency Department and Rapid Treatment Unit at Primary Children’s Hospital.
Though her travels were invaluable to her perspective and education, Western Colorado was always her home so she returned in 2010. Since then she has been practicing pediatrics in the Grand Valley. Dr. Murphy and her husband Brett have four children, Evric, Julia, Reese, and Tage and they live in beautiful Collbran, Colorado. They spend many of their weekends camping in the spring and summer, on the CMU football sidelines in the fall, and skiing in the winter.
Shannon is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the Academy of Pediatrics. Her passion is her patients.
