Supporting Your Children During Halloween and Staying Safe
Halloween is such a fun opportunity for kids creativity to shine through! They can express different parts of their uniqueness through costumes and play. It can also be overwhelming and sometimes scary for some kids. If you have younger children, trick or treat earlier where most of the “family friendly” crowd is out or find your local in town event where the environment is more controlled. Help your littles process that costumes are pretend and just for fun.
While having fun out trick or treating it is so important that you are staying safe! Below is the Mesa County Opioid Response Group’s Halloween Safety Guide.
- Travel Only in familiar well-lit areas.
- Stick with friends
- Cross the street using crosswalks and always look both ways
- Stay on sidewalks
- Don’t eat any treats until you are home
- Do not eat any unfamiliar or unwrapped candy
- Please be aware that there is a highly deadly drug called Rainbow Fentanyl that looks like candy.
